NHS Orkney Balfour Hospital
Key members of our team were involved in a variety of roles supporting NHS Orkney to develop both the briefing and design of the new Orkney hospital. This included engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders to develop an innovative solution that maximises staffing resources and facilitates a flexible adaptable solution for a wide variety of clinical services within one building.
B+A are provided Healthcare Planning and Strategic Planning advisory services to NHS Orkney to develop its New Rural General Hospital and Healthcare NPD Project. This was a unique procurement in that it needed to take account of “Island” factors that are not associated with mainland NHS Boards i.e. geography and weather at the same time as delivering critical care and operating theatre capacity in a remote island location.
Our team were initially engaged to undertake the Scottish Futures Trust “Independent (keystage) Review“, following which we were invited to tender for the delivery of Healthcare Planning Services to support the Technical Advisory Team in the overall procurement of the project
Key Aspects of the Commission

- Constructing an affordable schedule of accommodation
- Supporting the wider Technical Advisory Team in developing the Reference Design
- Providing Healthcare Planning advice to develop the ITPD documentation and leadership throughout Dialogue and the Preferred Bidder Period
