Ayrshire Maternity Unit
B+A were appointed by NHS Ayrshire and Arran to provide specialist Healthcare Planning advisory services in support of the new Ayrshire Maternity Unit. The £16 million unit, which was built through a PFI / PPP opened in August 2006. Ayrshire Maternity Unit is an 57 bedded facility which caters for up to 3,500 births annually, 7,000 in-patients and 4,500 day cases, providing patients with an improved environment and an integrated birthing suite, incorporating delivery room facilities, theatres, a high dependency unit and neonatal unit.
The unit was designed to create a comfortable relaxing environment. The layout features a curved external wall, which internally gives the feeling of space without long endless corridors. The new unit provides a much improved environment, integrating the necessary facilities in an open and welcoming layout.
